The ice industry has been critical to the growth of a nation the size of the United States. Can you imagine a life without the almost constant flow of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and fish? The rise of the ice industry, which may seem primitive in today’s technological environment, was extremely important to the economy, in terms of employment and the commerce it promoted.
We have divided the history of the Ice Industry into two parts. First, the early years, that took advantage of the tools, transportation and storage facilities that you can see in the Antique Ice Tool Museum. Second, we hope to provide a page that describes the technological advances over the past several years that we all take for granted today – the modern ice industry.
